General

You can get 4 weeks free insurance if you have had your pet microchipped with a Pet-ID microchip, or you have transferred keepership of a new cat or dog that has already been microchipped with a Pet-ID microchip. If your pet is eligible and we hold a valid working email address for you, you will receive a confirmation email that provides further information about the 4 weeks free insurance including the date that covers starts. If you have not received a confirmation email from us, please email insurance@petidmicrochips.com.

Unfortunately, we can only provide 4 weeks free insurance as part of our microchipping service. However, you can take out an annual insurance policy for your pet. Please call 01444 708844 to discuss the options available to you.

Cover & plans

To comply with the Insurance Distribution Directive, cover starts on the date notified in the microchip registration confirmation email from Pet-ID, not on the date of implant or registration. Cover for injury will begin 3 days after the policy start date and cover for illness 7 days after the policy start date.

When the 4 weeks free insurance cover expires, your pet will no longer be covered unless you choose to extend your cover to a full annual policy.

To ensure continuous cover please call the Pet-ID insurance customer service line on 01444 708844.

To maintain your pet’s continuous cover with us, you should call us before your 4 weeks free cover ends to prevent any break in cover. If there is a break in cover before you take out an annual policy, your pet will not be covered for injury for the first 3 days of the new annual policy and will not be covered for illness for the first 14 days of the new annual policy for any illness or injury which is covered by your 4 weeks free insurance.

If there is a break between your 4 weeks free insurance ending and your annual policy starting, the two policies will not be linked. This means your annual policy:

  • will not cover any illnesses or injuries which were covered under your 4 weeks free insurance, and;
  • any illnesses which start in the first 14 days of your annual policy will not be covered.

If your annual policy is started before your 4 weeks free insurance ends, the two policies are linked.
This means your annual policy:

  • will cover any illnesses or injuries which are covered under your 4 weeks free insurance, and;
  • will provide cover for new illnesses and injuries from the start date of your annual policy.

The 4 weeks free insurance does not provide any cover for Third Party Liability, which means that it does not provide any legal protection if your pet causes damage to property or injury to another party. If you require Third Party Liability for your dog please give us a call on 01444 708844 to discuss the options available to you.

The 4 weeks free insurance does not provide cover for pets travelling outside the UK. However, if you take out an annual policy, your policy will include cover for vet fees, emergency repatriation, quarantine expenses and advertising and reward when you travel with your pet to any of the Agreed Countries specified in your policy terms and conditions. If you require pet travel cover please give us a call on 01444 708844 to discuss the options available to you.
